James Todd

Manager

I set up Perth Pet Care in 2016 after I retired from working 35 years in the oil industry. I have always loved dogs and wanted to offer an alternative to dog walking and home care for dog owners in Perth.

Best part of the job: It’s been a great experience to grow the business and meet lots of lovely dogs and their owners. I can’t say I’m getting much of a retirement, though as I work every weekday from 7am to 6pm!
I’ve enjoyed being able to extend the team as we get busier and take pride in being a Living Wage employer. I also enjoy being able to offer a venue for other training courses in animal care, hosting regular parties like our summer Hawaiian Hound event, and providing the team with opportunities to enhance their own skills.

Laura Hopman

Carer

I studied HND in Animal Care at Elmwood college. I have a canine first aid certificate and an IMDT canine body language certificate.

Favourite part of the job:
I love watching all the dogs socialising and watching the new puppies grow and learn every day while monitoring their body language. We have such a great team and all work well together to make sure the dogs get the best care. I love that there are so many breeds and characters mixing together and having a blast. They all bring something different to the day care and I love getting to know them all. Of course I also love the cuddles and kisses from the dogs.

Claire Downie

Dog Tales

I have a BSc in Zoology, an MSc in Animal welfare science, ethics and law and am nearly finished an Advanced diploma in canine behaviour and the 30 days of canine science online course. I have also been mentored by Max Muir at Action 4 dogs. I also regularly attend workshops and seminars in dog behaviour, nutrition and other dog related things.

Favourite part of the job:
Getting to know all the dogs personalities and seeing the puppies mature into adult dogs. I also love when the dogs human family tell me stories of what their dog gets up to outside of daycare.

Emily McMillan

Wagging Tails

I completed my dog grooming training at the Ayrshire Academy of Canine Beauticians in 2015 and set up Wagging Tails Dog Grooming in October that year. I have since gained my City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog stylists and continue to attend seminars and training courses to further develop my skills.

Favourite part about the job:
Grooming to me is and always will be about welfare – maintaining a healthy coat and healthy skin. What I love is being able to develop a relationship with my clients and their dogs. Groomers will often see a dog more times per year than their vet and so we can play an important role in their overall general health by noticing any changes in condition and /or behaviour. Dog grooming can be extremely challenging sometimes but I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world.

Billie MacKay

Carer

My education is actually in countryside management and conservation as well as a Gamekeeping qualification. I’ve done a behavioural training course through IMDT as well as training my own 8 gundogs and helping others with training. In my personal time I dedicate a lot hours in researching and learning more about dog nutrition and diets.

Favourite part of the job:
I enjoy being able to work alongside dogs at home and at work, seeing the dogs develop and the puppies grow brings a sense of accomplishment.

Jo Drysdale

Carer

I have both my HNC in Animal Care and Animal Nursing Assistant qualifications both acquired from SRUC Barony college, as well as completing a IDMT course on canine body language while I’ve been working here at Perth Pet Care. I also hold a current Canine First Aid certificate.

Favourite part about the job:
Working with such a great team and getting to know each and every dogs personality is definitely my favourite part of the job. Puppy cuddles and kisses is just a perk!

Customers reviews

Christine Fraser: Wonderful facilities and staff so caring and attentive to dogs. Bubbles gets excited when we turn into the carpark; off she goes without a backward glance and comes back to me happy and contented, and tired
Alison Garrett : A fantastic place- my Westie pup, Hamish loves it! He has been in day care, done two training courses and been groomed there. When I had a migraine recently I phoned up and Hamish was picked up for a half day of play and brought home later. When James dropped him off he just sat by the front door and whined, wanting to go back and play - says it all!!
Caroline Foote: What a fantastic service. Very friendly staff who have made myself and Vinnie feel very welcome. Always flexible and helpful, great training and knowledge, with a good understanding of dogs. I can get to the appointments etc that I need to knowing I will pick up a happy tired puppy.
